Purdue University scientists have come up with a new method for researching with DNA, potentially opening a new pathway to understanding diabetes and other diseases.

The New Jersey Health IT Extension Center (NJ-HITEC) has reached a significant milestone with 5,000 primary care providers committing to transitioning to EHRs.

Glenwood, Ill.-based medical physics services provider Landauer has acquired Baltimore-based IZI Medical Products for $93 million. IZI sells products related to radiology, radiation therapy and image guided surgery procedures, and was previously owned by Boston-based Riverside Partners.

Oxford Instruments has purchased Platinum Medical Imaging for $18 million, with a deferred payment of up to $37 million over the next three years. The additional payment is dependent upon the companys performance over that time period.

Radiologists recommendations for follow-up imaging generated 5.3 percent of chest and abdominal CT, brain and lumbar spine MRI and body PET exams, with pulmonary nodule evaluation identified as the most common cause for follow-up imaging, according to a study published online Nov. 15 in Radiology.

Harrison Medical Center in Bremerton, Wash., has installed three Infinix-i vascular x-ray systems from Toshiba America Medical Systems. The systems allow the center to use radial access for nearly all cases.

Researchers found no significant difference in the proportion of patients with abnormal findings on knee MRI based on referral by pediatricians rather than orthopedic surgeons, according to a study published in the November issue of American Journal of Roentgenology. The results disproved the researchers hypothesis that patients referred by orthopedic surgeons were more likely to show abnormal findings.
