The Healthcare Leadership Council (HLC), a coalition of executives representing health providers, insurers, manufacturers and patient advocacy groups, has issued six recommendations it believes can be implemented today to improve healthcare in the U.S.

The College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) is urging the federal government to give healthcare providers more time to adjust to recent changes to the Meaningful Use program before mandating new and burdensome Stage 3 requirements.

Another survey indicates that the Oct. 1 transition to ICD-10 went smoothly for most healthcare providers, but 11 percent said it was a failure, according to KPMG. 

Overall, there have been few complaints in the wake of the transition to ICD-10 but a few isolated incidents have led the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to issue clarifications on how it's resolving the issues.

Meaningful Use (MU) needs streamlining and a reduced reporting burden for provider through better aligned quality measures, said the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME). 

As critics predicted, the ICD-10 transition is negatively impacting inpatient and outpatient coder productivity at hospitals of all sizes and types.

The transition to ICD-10 is going well, according to the first numbers released by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services.
