Jeremy Slivnick, MD, spoke with Cardiovascular Business about AI's potential to transform how cardiac amyloidosis is diagnosed and treated. 

AI was one of the biggest stories at the American Heart Association’s Scientific Sessions 2023 conference in Philadelphia. Researchers presented new data about heart attack care, voice recognition algorithms, digital stethoscopes and more. 

Ultromics thinks the significant payment increase will help ramp up utilization among U.S. healthcare providers.

The advanced algorithm achieved a sensitivity of 93% and specificity of 98%. It was trained to identify up to five different valvular diseases at the same time from a single audio clip.

“If we can deploy our model on a population-level ECG screening, we would be able to pick up many more of these patients before they have irreversible damage,” a cardiologist behind the new study explained. 

Echocardiography expert Roberto Lang, MD, says artificial intelligence will be so important to cardiac ultrasound in the near future that echo labs not using it will be inefficient and less accurate than labs that do use it.

The algorithm, developed using data from more than 7,00 chest pain patients, performed better than multiple techniques currently used to evaluate cardiac events.
