N.Y. imaging center initiates $10M expansion
Buffalo MRI of Buffalo, N.Y., has embarked on a $10.5 million expansion and relocation project.
The provider moved from a 4,200-square-foot suite to a 13,000-square-foot space in the Snyder plaza it has called home since opening 15 years ago. The new site comes equipped with $9 million in new equipment for outpatient MRI and CT scans.
Co-owners Colleen and Kevin Burns, CEO and COO, respectively, said that the goal of the expansion was also to meet the needs of patients, who said they wanted greater privacy, more personalized attention and an opportunity to be part of their own healthcare experience.
Patients wait for procedures in private, European-themed "quiet" rooms, according to the owners. Procedure rooms are decorated with expansive murals intended to relax patients, while the entire facility is painted in soothing blues.
The provider said that the new equipment includes a 128-slice CT scanner, two 3T MRIs and machines for x-ray, fluoroscopy and ultrasound, all of which can accommodate large patients up to 550 pounds. That feature has led to contracts with the Ministry of Ontario to treat larger patients. Canadian patients now make up 9 percent of overall business.
The site is also home to Buffalo Diagnostic Imaging, an in-house practice group managed by Ronald Femia, MD.
Exam capabilities in x-ray, fluoroscopy and ultrasound are new service lines, according to the provider. The privately owned company has 50 employees, with 12 new staff hired with the expansion.
