Elekta nets first Gamma Knife install in Japan
Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion, Elekta's system for stereotactic radiosurgery, is now being used to treat patients at the Jiro Suzuki Memorial Gamma House, Furukawa Seiryo Hospital, in Miyagi, Japan, the company reported.
The 100-bed hospital is the first in Japan to offer treatment with Leksell Gamma Knife Perfexion, a radiosurgery treatment system for intracranial stereotactic radiosurgery of Gamma Knife surgery, the company said.
Hidefumi Jokura, MD, reported that the Furukawa facility has treated 107 cases--60 percent of which were brain metastases--since the install, according to the Stockholm, Sweden-based Elekta.
