Sony launches compact medical printer

Sony has released a medical-grade digital printer, model UP-DR80MD, targeted for surgical, endoscopy and ultrasound applications.

Compatible with most image capture, endoscopic camera and digital ultrasound systems, the Park Ridge, N.J.-based company said that the new printer delivers crisp 301 dpi tone output and combines images and text on letter-size media for medical reporting. Designed for medical cart integration, the UP-DR80MD printer is a small full-page, dye-sublimation printer, measuring 12.5 inches x 16.75 inches x 8.13 inches. It can also service multiple users from a fixed location with optional network support.

The UP-DR80MD printer provides durable, water-resistant prints in less than 72 seconds (not including start-up time and initialization), catering to the needs of medical environments, Sony said. The unit's color adjustment feature provides an on-screen color preview. The UP-DR80MD is USB 2.0 compatible and supports Windows 2000, XP and Vista operating systems.
