eHealth Global delivers image exchange for Rochester RHIO

The Rochester Regional Health Information Organization (RHIO) has implemented eHealth Global Technologies' eHealthConnect Image Exchange service to automate access to patient images for participating healthcare institutions.

The service integrates with Rochester RHIO's Axolotl's Elysium health information exchange (HIE) system and connects to the PACS imaging services at eight radiology providers, according to the Rochester, N.Y.-based company. Lakeside Memorial Hospital in Brockport, N.Y. is the first healthcare provider integrated into the eHealthConnect Image Exchange.

In addition to automating access to images, eHealth Global said its Image Exchange will cache 30 days of exams, as well as providing the capability of pulling older exams on-demand. Also, eHealth Global said its eHealthViewer, a single viewer with diagnostic quality viewing, image processing and measurements, will be used by clinicians to view the radiology exams selected from within the web-based Elysium HIE system.

The company said that its Image Exchange servers and data storage are housed in a tier-1, HIPAA-compliant data center, and data is distributed via a virtual private network. At each radiology provider site, eHealth Global deployed an edge server that communicates with the provider's PACS via DICOM query/retrieve and does not impact user licenses or web performance of the PACS.
