CCHIT develops task force; names 09 EHR pilot participants
The Certification Commission for Healthcare Information Technology (CCHIT) has assembled an advisory task force for its new Long Term Care Spectrum (LTCS) certification development. The commission has also named companies that participated in its 2009 EHR certification pilot tests.
This volunteer task force, comprised of representatives with skilled nursing facility, assisted living, home care, hospice, health IT and public payor experience, will assist the commission in assessing the current landscape and advising on the appropriate direction and scope of work for the LTCS Work Group.
Members will deliver their recommendations to CCHIT and the Work Group prior to the initiation of development work scheduled to begin in July 2009 for a certification program launch planned for July 2010.
Members of the task force include:
• Co-chairs: Mark Leavitt, MD, PhD, CCHIT chair, and John Derr, RPh., senior vice president and chief technology strategic officer, Golden Living;
• Christopher Attaya, president and CEO, Partners Home Care/Hospice/Private Care;
• Thomas Clark, RPh, director of Clinical Affairs, American Society of Consultant Pharmacists Foundation;
• Yael Harris, PhD, senior policy analyst, Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology;
• Jennie Harvel, senior policy analyst, Office of the Assistant Secretary for Planning and Evaluation;
• Sheila Lambowitz, director, division of institutional post acute care, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services; and
• Michelle Dougherty, director, practice leadership, American Health Information Management Association;
There is still time to volunteer for service on the LTCS Work Group and all other work groups through April 20. Those interested in helping guide the Commission's efforts are encouraged to apply at www.cchit.org/volunteer.
Pilot program participants
The Commission also announced the participants in 2009 EHR certification pilot tests designed to validate new or revised criteria, test steps and testing tools against real products and to solicit vendor comment to fine tune the inspection process. The following companies qualified and participated in ambulatory, inpatient or emergency department EHR pilot tests:
• Emergisoft
• MedHost
• MedPlexus
• NextGen Healthcare Information Systems
• Prognosis Health Information Systems
• Wellsoft
The final comment period for 2009 criteria and test steps is underway and will close on April 28. To review and submit comments on these materials, visit www.cchit.org/participate/public-comment/index.asp.
