PEPID medical app now available on iPhone

PEPID has expanded its mobile medical platform to include the iPhone and iPod Touch from Apple. The new application installs directly to the device, allowing healthcare providers to gain access to protocols, drug interactions and other vital patient care information wherever they go, regardless of Internet connectivity.

The iPhone applications include all medical content and tools customers are accustomed to from PEPID, as well as some upgrades. Enhancements to the iPhone applications scheduled for spring 2009 include a symptom checker that allows healthcare professionals to select symptoms and generate a list of possible diagnoses ranked by likelihood, as well as an incompatibility tool to check from drug-solution or drug-drug-solution compatibility, according to the Evanston, Ill.-based PEPID.

PEPID said it will automatically roll over any remaining subscription time for existing customers who upgrade to the new iPhone platform. The company said the application is also available on other smartphones, online or delivered into an existing EMR system.
