$500K on the table in AI vs. COVID contest

Nonprofit competition organizer XPrize is partnering with global tech consultancy Cognizant to award AI innovators in a pandemic response challenge.

Total prize purse: half a million dollars.

XPrize opened the contest Nov. 17, saying the money will go to teams that develop outstanding AI models for predicting COVID’s spread and prescribing cost-effective ways to thwart it.

Amir Banifatemi, XPrize’s chief innovation and growth officer, says the entries “could be a game changer when it comes to using data and AI to create a route to recovery via a range of economic scenarios created by the competing teams. With vaccines on the horizon, these predictive and prescriptive models for opening society will continue to be valuable for the foreseeable future.”

The challenge will close in February. Details here.
